The FDA has approved a vaccine for the virus that has just started to be distributed. The CDC has recommended that all associates and residents of senior living communities be among the first individuals to receive the vaccine.
GreenFields of Geneva has signed up to participate in the CDC’s Pharmacy Partnership for Long-term Care Program to ensure that our residents and associates receive the safest and most comprehensive care surrounding the vaccine. Our pharmacy partner, CVS, will manage the COVID-19 vaccination process, including visits to our community for initial and second doses of the vaccine.
This is certainly an exciting time and the first step to getting back to normal. We will maintain regular communication with our residents and associates and provide updates as new information is obtained.
On January 23rd, 367 GreenFields residents (including Independent Living) and staff received their COVID-19 vaccine dose at the community. CVS Pharmacy will return for a 3rd visit to the community in mid February.

Vaccinations began the week of 12/28 with priority given to the 50 counties with highest number of COVID deaths. The most promising news is that the CDC has recommended that all residents and associates of senior living communities be among those offered the first supply of COVID-19 vaccines. CVS Pharmacy, our pharmacy partner, will be distributing the vaccines to our healthcare residents, starting January 2, 2021.
Seniors are among the most vulnerable population to be affected by COVID-19. Unfortunately, 8 out of 10 deaths from COVID-19 are among those 65 and older. While preventative measures like hand-washing and mask-wearing reduce your chances of being infected, vaccines work with your immune system so your body can fight the virus if you are exposed.
The vaccine is administered in two shots. The first one starts building protection, then a few weeks later, the final dose is administered to deliver the full vaccination. All vaccinations will be voluntary. The CDC has recommended that all residents and associates of senior living communities be among the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccines.
No. It will be covered just like other vaccines. Whether or not you have health insurance, everyone in America will get the COVID-19 vaccine for free, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the CDC.
At GreenFields Geneva, we have taken every precaution to keep our residents and associates safe and healthy. Friendship Senior Options is in contact with associates and residents through regular communications. We will continue to keep them updated as changes occur. While we await our vaccine clinic to be completed by our pharmacy partner, CVS, prevention is the best form of protection. We encourage all residents, associates and guests to wash hands thoroughly and often, use hand sanitizer, refrain from touching your face, and keep a safe social distance from those who are sick. Just a reminder: Immunocompromised individuals and pregnant women should seek personal advice from their medical provider.
